Here’s Who Made XXL’s Freshman List For 2024

On Monday, June 24, the outlet unveiled its annual list, which was finalized with 11 rappers. The outlet notes that it had reportedly met with 52 contenders in total. This reportedly included the likes of Atlanta-bred rapper Anycia, Memphis-bred rapper Gloss Up, New York City-bred rapper Sha Ek, and many more.

However, the outlet reportedly finalized their list by heavily considering “discussions” about the contenders’ music, listening to their unreleased songs, discussing touring plans, and “learning more about their goals.”

In the end, rappers BigXThaPlug, That Mexican OT, Lay Bankz, BossMan Dlow, Rich Amiri, ScarLip, Hunxho, 4batz, Maiya The Don, Cash Cobain, Skilla Baby.

As The Shade Room previously reported, Billboard also prompted reactions from social media users after it unveiled its list of “10 Hottest Female Rappers Right Now” earlier this month.

Nicki Minaj topped the list, while Sexyy Red and Megan Thee Stallion were ranked second and third, respectively. Additionally, the list also included Doja Cat, Ice Spice, Latto, and others.

Furthermore, social media users appeared less than impressed with the outlet’s list and let it be known.
