Trump’s Stance On Abortion
CNN hosted a 90-minute presidential debate where President Biden and Donald Trump confronted each other on a range of topics. Their most extended exchange, however, focused on their positions regarding abortion.
According to CNBC, Trump claimed Biden supported abortions up until birth, which Biden denied affirming his support for Roe v. Wade, a longstanding precedent in the United States.
During the presidential debate, Trump clarified that he has no intention of blocking abortion medication when asked about it.
“First of all, the Supreme Court just approved the abortion pill, and I agree with that decision to have done that, and I will not block it! 51 years ago, you had Roe v. Wade and everybody wanted to get it back to the states, everybody! Everybody wanted it back, Trump explained.
Trump continued to assert that he deserves credit for returning control over abortion rights to the states, claiming it was a popular demand. Donnie also stated his agreement with the 40th U.S. President, Ronald Reagan, regarding exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
“I think it’s very important. Some people don’t, [but] follow your heart. The problem they have, they will take the life of a child in the eighth month and ninth month and even after birth. What happens is we brought it back to the states and the country is now coming together on this issue. It’s been a great thing!” Trump added.
President Biden’s Stance On Abortion
However, President Biden sharply criticized Trump, stating that he had done a “terrible thing.”
“The fact is that the vast majority of continental scholars supported Roe when it was decided. Now there’s this idea that they’re all against it, it’s just ridiculous! And this is the guy who says the state should be able to have it,” Biden said.
President Biden continued to emphasize his stance that decisions concerning women’s health should not be made by politicians. Additionally, he affirmed his commitment to restoring Roe v. Wade if elected.
“This idea that the founders want the politicians to be the ones making decisions about women’s health is ridiculous! No politician should make that decision, a doctor should be making those decisions. That’s how it should be run. And if I’m elected I’m going to restore Roe v. Wade,” the president added.
