HBO Execs Dispel Rumors About Euphoria Season 3
Fans of the hit HBO series Euphoria can breathe a sigh of relief because season three of the show is still slated to arrive on the streaming service.
Back in July, HBO announced that season three would go into production at the top of 2025. However, rumors recently circulated that the actors had decided not to return to the series. The news quickly spread that the series would end with the last thing viewers saw of the characters more than two years ago.
One of the driving forces of the rumors was the announcement that lead actress, Zendaya, had joined the cast of a new Christopher Nolan film slated for release in 2026. Fans assumed that the Golden Globe winner would not have the time to shoot both projects simultaneously. HBO executives rushed to assure fans that any rumors about the show not returning were “absolutely false.”
In July 2023, one of the show’s stars, Angus Cloud, died from an accidental drug overdose. Fans wondered how the series would handle his character’s passing as season two seemed to point to a growing storyline for him. Zendaya‘s other co-stars, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, have also enjoyed booming careers and skyrocketing popularity since their portrayals of Cassie Howard and Nate Jacobs, respectively.
The show’s creators have not yet revealed much about season three, although HBO‘s CEO of content, Casey Bloys, did confirm that there will be a time jump for the characters, which will put them out of high school, according to Variety.
“There’s a lot of back and forth about where to set it and how far in the future to set it and all that stuff,” Bloys said. “But I think he’s [Sam Levinson] got a take that he’s excited about, and he’s busy writing.”
Euphoria became an instant hit for HBO when it debuted in 2019 but one has to wonder how much time can go by before fans completely move on from having an investment in any of the characters.
