More Details On Kathryn Stephanopoulos’ Alleged Actions
According to Fox 35 Orlando, the incident occurred on August 14 around 3:30 p.m. Students from the Flagler-Palm Coast High School were reportedly getting off the school bus at one stop when two teenage girls exited the bus and allegedly agreed to fight one another.
Furthermore, an arrest affidavit reportedly noted that the girls used to be friends and had a conflict over a boy.
“One of the juvenile’s mothers was waiting at the bus stop after being told by her child about the fight,” Flagler County Sheriff’s Office stated. “Once the fight began, the mother joined the fight instead of trying to break it up.”
Footage of the brawl was reportedly captured by a student on the bus. Furthermore, it seemingly shows Stephanopoulos exchanging words with her daughter’s ex-friend before her daughter pushes the teen, and the teen throws the first blow.
At that point, Stephanopoulos intervenes and seemingly places the other teen in a “headlock,” per Fox 35. Meanwhile, her daughter continues to throw blows.
Eventually, the mother and teen fall to the ground, and the scuffle between them intensifies. According to The Daytona-Beach Journal, the teen even struck the mother with a Stanley Cup.
Furthermore, at one point, a teen boy attempts to break up the mother and teen girl. However, he’s then met with blows from Stephanopoulos’ daughter.
Footage of the incident shows the fight lasted nearly three minutes before Stephanopoulos and her daughter drove off in their car.
More Details On The Florida Mom’s Charges
According to the outlet, no arrests were made on the day of the altercation. However, “days later,” Stephanopolous was arrested and taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.
Since then, the mother has reportedly been released on $1,000 bail.
“It should be noted that Kathryn expressed her regret and embarrassment about the entire incident,” Flagler County’s arrest affidavit reportedly stated.
According to TMZ, the mother has reportedly been charged with child abuse.
“Instead of deescalating the situation, we have a mother who joined in the fray, setting a bad example for her child and those at the bus stop,” Sheriff Rick Staly stated per Fox 35. “She certainly won’t receive mother of the year with her actions. Parents need to set the example and not be part of the problem. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but now a mother is facing serious charges for losing control of her temper.”
Furthermore, the outlet adds that Stephanopolous’s daughter is facing “misdemeanor charges” while the other teen has been charged with “felony aggravated battery.” No one involved in the altercation reportedly sustained major injuries.
Law & Crime adds that Stephanopolous is expected to be arraigned on September 23.
Another Florida Mother Made Headlines Amid The Back To School Season
Stephanopolous isn’t the only mother in Florida to make recent headlines. As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this month, another mother — whose identity was not disclosed — ran over her 12-year-old daughter on the first day of school.
The incident reportedly occurred after the mother dropped her daughter near Booker Middle School. However, upon the 12-year-old’s exit, she allegedly dropped items under her mom’s Lincoln Navigator.
The 12-year-old crawled under the car to retrieve her belongings. However, the mother was unaware and began to drive off, leaving the child in critical condition.
