According to AP News, Fortson’s younger brother was found dead in the hallway of his Atlanta apartment building. 16-year-old Andre Fortson was killed during a shootout between two separate groups of people for reasons that have not yet been explained.
“The Fortson family is battling the loss of yet another young member of their family,” said civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who has been representing the family since Roger Fortson was killed.
“This has been an incredibly challenging time for them with the loss of Roger,” Crump said in a statement. “Losing the life of yet another young family member — a mere child — has been an absolute devastation.”
A 20-year-old has been accused of being one of the shooters in the gunfight. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault but was not publicly named. However, social media users are claiming to have knowledge of the man’s identity.
