12-Year-Old Shot Multiple Times After A Snowball Hit A Passing Car
Hartford police are still looking for the suspect(s) involved in the shooting of a 12-year-old boy. The incident reportedly happened at around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday (January 2022) while the boy, whose name isn’t public yet, was playing with an 11-year-old. A snowball hit a passing car on the street, and the driver looped back around.
The younger child did not suffer any gunshot wounds, but the 12-year-old did. At this time, PEOPLE reports that the boy’s injuries are not life-threatening. Doctors treated him at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
What Happens Next In Snowball Shooting?
The investigation is still open. However, as of Friday, police have no suspects in custody. Hartford Police Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert told reporters that the driver chased the kids before firing at them.
“12-year-old was with another juvenile, throwing snowballs, one… snowball hit a car, that car looped the block and chased the kids and fired rounds at the children,” Aaron Boisvert stated, per a Fox 61 Connecticut clip.
Local reports say police have video footage that’s helping the investigation but have not revealed what the video shows. At this time, it’s unclear if the snowball that hit the car was an accident or intentional.
In 2023, William Carson was sentenced to 16 years in prison after his enraged reaction to a group of hits striking his car with a snowball. Carson pulled around and fired multiple shots in the direction of the kids. Bullets struck two of the seven kids in the thigh and arm.
Milwaukee police arrested Carson a couple of days later and charged him with two counts of first-degree reckless injury and five counts of recklessly endangering safety in the first degree. Hartford police have not announced charges in this recent case.
